I think I'm living in America, pretty close to New York city: my toaster has a special setting for bagels. I have no idea what it does and haven't dared to try it yet.

It is *supposed* to evenly toast the bagel without under or over doing it.
My toaster doesn't have that setting, and to toast most bagels (at least with relatively low sugar content) I nearly have to put the manual lever setting at zero. :)
