a kitchen with a view
It is part of the civil rights of the American house wives that they have a window placed above the kitchen sink so that they can watch their kids play outside while they wash the dishes. Because of this there is no space for a drying cupboard (kuivauskaappi, found in every Finnish home).

Yes, I've always wondered which is better - the drying cupboard or the view. I guess on a practical level, the cupboard wins - "drying up" is knida unheard of in Finland ain't it?
What you, Robin, are probably referring to here is the English tradition of wiping the dishes dry right after washing them - without rinsing them, that is. That is a long and an honorable tradition, I'm sure.
